Texas Baptists Disaster Recovery Offers Church to Family Partnerships

Texas Baptists Disaster Recovery will launch a new initiative for churches in response to the recent onslaught of severe weather across the state. Through the new Church to Family Partnerships, the opportunity is available to partner with a family affected by flooding or tornadoes to help rebuild or repair their home.

In May, many homes were damaged and/or destroyed through tornadoes and flooding in the towns of Van (East, TX), and Donna (South, TX). In Van alone, over 60 homes were completely destroyed and declared uninhabitable.

The Long Term Recovery phase of these disasters is beginning. Texas Baptists Disaster Recovery will begin mobilizing teams to disaster areas to help rebuild and repair homes of those who are without insurance, underinsured, elderly or disabled. TBDR will provide volunteer labor to help these individuals who have lost so much.

All notices received indicate there will be no individual financial assistance granted by FEMA. This is where the faith-based family can help. TBDR has identified homes in Van and Donna, as well as other areas across the state, who fit our assistance criteria and will need help. TBDR specialists have vetted these families and know their needs are truthful. We would like to invite your church to partner with these families.

Church to Family Partnership opportunities through financial contributions to Texas Baptists Disaster Recovery are as follows:

  • $10,000 provides the materials to rebuild a kitchen (including appliances and construction) of a home in Van
  • $5,000 provides the materials to rebuild a roof of a home in Van or Donna
  • $2,500 provides the materials to rebuild a bathroom of a home in Van, Donna or Eagle Pass
  • $2,000 provides the materials to repair the roof of a mobile home in Donna or Van
  • $500 can replace the windows in one room of a home in Van or Donna
