Texas Baptists welcomes new director of Hispanic evangelism

Joshua del Risco has been named director of Hispanic evangelism and associate director of evangelism for Texas Baptists.

Del Risco's experience in directing evangelism and communicating with churches is extensive, having worked with the North American Mission Board for 13 years in various capacities including serving as a national missionary for evangelism and developing the international and multiethnic evangelism team.

"We are thankful to the Lord that He has sent Joshua (to Texas Baptists)," said Scott Willingham, director of evangelism. "He comes to us 'turn key,' that is, he is ready to lead and serve."

He has worked closely with churches helping them be more intentional in outreach and in engaging their communities in an effective manner to share the Gospel, something that he aspires to continue doing with Texas Baptist churches.

"This position goes really well with what my passions and gifts are," he explained. "It's about sharing the Gospel. It's focused on equipping churches, their members, their leaders and their pastors in the area of evangelism."

He is looking forward to begin building relationships with church leaders and to strategize how Texas Baptists can better "Live the Difference," the theme of this year's Annual Meeting, through evangelistic lifestyles.

"Live the difference to me means for us to live an evangelistic lifestyle," he said. "If we're going to impact our culture, it has to be all of us living out our faith on a daily basis."

Del Risco also served as a pastor of Living Word Hispanic Baptist Church in Oklahoma City for six years. He and his wife, Esther, recently moved to Dallas from Atlanta, Georgia. He began his director position with Texas Baptists on Nov. 3.

"Texas presents a diverse and growing missions field," Del Risco said. "I'm excited for the privilege to work alongside pastors and churches that are committed to the Gospel, who desire to reach their communities and the world for Christ. I'm refocused, reenergized and thrilled to be a part of the BGCT family."
