Bouncers are nearing the end of their week working in Houston. I had a chance to talk with a Youth Worker, Wilma Yancy, from Westside Baptist Church in Lewisville, Texas. This week is Westside’s first Bounce experience. I asked Wilma how she thought the students from her church were responding to Bounce. Her answer was an overwhelming affirmation of the experience as a whole. Wilma and some of the Westside students explained they are regularly involved in community service events with their church. So the community driven nature of Bounce is certainly in their wheelhouse.
Last night, Westside, FBC Kilgore, and some FBC Seguin and FBC Fort Worth students met together to have an open discussion about race reconciliation. Praise the Lord! Who would think that a week of hard manual labor could produce such challenging, healing, and affirming conversation among students? Bouncers had the privilege of experiencing a glimpse of heaven this week as the Church came together to be the fullest expression of God’s boundless love and grace.
We have so enjoyed the addition of Westside students this week. The ministry of their church is reflected in the lives and attitudes of their students. They have been hardworking, encouraging, and a source of overwhelming joy this week. We are thankful for the ministry and leadership of volunteers from participating churches who proudly invest in their students!
