We all need hope.
We have earthquakes shaking, winter storms freezing, sickness ravaging, bad news surrounding, ISIS killing and kidnapping, families breaking, jobs dropping and gas prices rising! We don't need regular hope. We need CRAZY HOPE.
Hope for New Leadership
It often seems that national leadership seems unaware of what is going on with the common man. Those in power keep giving themselves more power. Those in power interpret the laws to suit their own need, fill their own pocketbooks and do as they wish. They travel and dress to the nines on the public's dime and then don't understand why everyone is unhappy. They make friends with the enemy in foreign policy and force-feed the problems back to the people.
When Jesus was baptized, He awakened people to a new possible reality: HOPE.
- Hope that we don't make the same mistakes AGAIN.
- Hope that life for my kids has a shot of being better.
- Hope that our income outweighs our bills.
- AHope that we can die with dignity.
- Hope that cancer can be cured.
Hope for a New Message
We long for a new message. We are tired of the rhetoric and bickering in Congress. We need pipelines not pipe dreams. We need solutions, not sanctions. We need jobs, not a jihad. We need vision, not vetoes. We need a new message; a new mission.
The scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where this was written: "The Spirit of the lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the lord's favor has come." He rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the synagogue looked at him intently. Then he began to speak to them. "The Scripture you've just heard has been fulfilled this very day." Luke 4:17-21
The message of Jesus is incredible! Just look at what He says He will do. Who needs hope? Who needs good news? Who needs light, sight and oppression gone?
Hope for a New Kingdom
As Jesus rode up to Jerusalem, He was giving hope to a people without any. Hosanna actually means, "Save us now!" It is a desperate cry, one we cry a lot these days. The people thought of a Messiah as a revolutionary who would bring a remedy to Rome and a reward of riches. This concept was all about themselves. It's hard not to think of ourselves in times like these. The Kingdom Jesus offers is one of power, grace and glory. We cry "Hosanna!" because we believe that which is not, as if it already were while completely trusting in whatever God decided as the best course of action.
Hope for a New King
Our lives can be like taking a cave tour where you they turn out the lights. After the death and burial of Jesus hope was gone. His followers watched hope die on Friday. Yet, He rose and gave hope back to the world!
Because of the resurrection of Jesus sin has no hold, Hell has no victory, and death has no more sting!
Do you have freedom?
Do you have Heaven?
Do you have confidence?
Do you have HOPE?
