Divine Encounters in East Asia

By Lucas, Go Now missionary and Texas A&M University student

Long ago, when I was going to school at my previous university, I met Rick* outside of the pavilion, a common area on campus. He came to our club and had free lunch with us on Wednesdays. Rick became my friend in 2017, but he was leaving to go back to his home country and I was transferring to a different university. What we didn’t know was that we were going to meet again in the near future.

Rick, a pen pal of mine, stayed connected and was informed about my coming to his home country. We found the time to meet up, and were able to reunite again. This time, however, it was different. He was planning on bringing a friend who was a native of the city that I’m staying in. What I wasn’t expecting was his friend, Bob*, to be the one interested in the one true Father of all nations. Lol, this sounds cult-like.

Bob was asking many questions as if this had been something that was on his mind for a while. Well, the next day, I planned and prayed that I would be able to share the good news with them, and we sat down and it was shared. I asked them if they knew what they needed to do in order to restore their relationship with God. I let them know that God created them in His own image and deeply loves them. I also ended with a time to respond and make a decision.

My prayer is that whatever shame or fear they have in either their society or family, would be washed away, that God would find His way into their hearts and give them a willingness to run to Him and not look back. I ask that they wouldn’t just hear the good news, but understand it so that one day they will be the ones bearing a hundredfold and sixtyfold.
