MAP Stories: Life-changing ministry in NYC

Larry Mayberry serves as a MAP missionary in New York City. His team has started a church plant, Queens Church, to reach lost souls in western Queens.

At our Father’s Day service in 2019, I sat across from a first-time guest at our church, Steve. He had found out about Queens Church on Instagram around Easter and had just gotten around to coming to one of our monthly services.

He told me, “if I’m going to start coming I want to plug-in and serve.” He hasn’t quit serving since then!

Steve is our Sunday set-up team coordinator and just recently has been experiencing a call to preach. As partners of Queens Church, you have been praying for men to rise up in our church for the past 15 months and during that time God has answered you in great ways.

Steve will be doing some sermon prep with me over the next few weeks and will be preaching his first sermon as we close out our Portrait series on April 5.

We have always wanted to start a church that is “self-sustaining“ and often times we think of that in only financial terms. We are seeing that God is building this church to last in more ways than one. Be praying for Steve as he steps out in faith and obeys this calling God is placing on him. Also, continue praying for more people like Steve who are ready to go all-in and build this new church for the people of Queens.

Pray for more Christians to attend. We have 12 new believers over the last 6 months and are excited about that but looking for more believers to help disciple them!
