Final Day of Church Planting in Dallas

Today wraps up our last day of church planting in Dallas. We were honored to partner with amazing local church planters in Dallas and students from FBC El Paso. This week has been so meaningful to Bouncers as they have had the opportunity to step outside of their comfort zones and press into God’s faithfulness.

Sermons this summer have focused on heroes of the Bible. Pastor Tom Howe has encouraged students this week to be courageous because we are all heroes. Young people are not lesser for their youth. Many worship speakers this summer have highlighted the power of young people in the...

Church and Doughnuts

One of our largest groups this week is partnered with West End Church led by David Miranda. They have participated in a variety of different church planting projects this week. Their projects have included eating with the homeless, planting flowers in the city, playing with children at the local school gym, and painting at the school. They were able to have gospel conversations in both Spanish and English.

Students Colbie Cornell, Alex Kelly, and Dominic Lara shared about their experience during worship today. Dominic was especially moved by the location of the church. West End Church meets outside a doughnut shop (a popular spot...

The Kingdom of Heaven Meets the Animal Kingdom

Bouncers descended upon Dallas today for another great day of church planting. Interestingly, one group of students with Kingdom Church spent the better part of their day at the Dallas Zoo! I could never imagine doing ministry at a zoo but that is what this group did and they certainly made a day of it.

Students began their day at the zoo by talking with people they encountered. They then passed out flyers about the church to families they encountered. The day at the zoo finished with Bouncers walking around the zoo and ministering to a group of children from a local recreation center. They are continuing...

See You Next Year!

We concluded a great week of work in Victoria, TX! Everyone finished their projects and some even had the opportunity to build great relationships with their homeowners. We are so grateful for the ministry of our Worship Leader, Eric Martinez. He delivered the Word to us boldly with truth and grace. We praise God for his ministry and the gifts God has given him to engage with students. It has been a rewarding week ministering alongside Eric and these students.

While there was heartbreak with the loss of three of our student’s grandfather this week, we were overjoyed to have them stay...

Raise the Roof!

Bounce collegiate staff had the opportunity to visit and work at all four worksites this morning. It was so great to work alongside these awesome students. Some of our staffers used their first electric saw and nail gun, climbed atop their first roof, and helped with their first fence. Our junior high and high school students were great instructors today. They encouraged us through the heat of the day.

We got a lot of roofing and shingling completed for a shed and one of our resident’s houses. Putting on shingles is a humbling task. It takes a lot of patience and can go rather quickly but only if your team...

Peace and Reflection

Bouncers made serious headway on their projects today. Fences are going up, walls are being painted, and roofs are being repaired. Some of our students will even be moving on to other work sites tomorrow. We are so proud of their work.

Tonight they concluded a wonderful night of worship themed around the Psalms of David. Students traveled through the highs and lows of David’s life and ministry. They had the opportunity to reflect on unity, rewrite Psalm 23, think about God’s mercy and restoration, and proclaim thanksgiving. Moments of reflection like this are so important. Silence and calm...

Great First Day in Victoria

Students got their day going with enthusiastic tunes and a delicious breakfast. It is always such a joy to spend the morning with students. Hearing their stories and affirming their dreams is one of the greatest joys for the Bounce team!

Bouncers came back to our lodging facility today a little stinky and full of great stories from an amazing first day. One group that spent most of the day working on a roof was also able to meet their homeowner. They were met by a man in a wheelchair (the homeowner) at their worksite who immediately expressed gratitude and asked to be prayed over by the team. We are so happy...

Student Disaster Recovery in Victoria!

We are excited for a new week of disaster recovery in Victoria, TX! Three churches (Faith Family Fellowship, Burton Hill Baptist Church, FBC Copperas Cove) will be joining us to repair homes and encourage communities with their acts of service this week.

Mission Coordinator, Carlos Montoya, and Construction Coordinator, Mark Haveman, and the Bounce collegiate staff have put in a lot of work to get everything in order for students to serve this week. We are appreciative of Northside Baptist Church in Victoria for hosting us this week and for Pastor Eric Martinez who is serving as our...

Goodbye Coastal Bend!

Tonight wraps up an awesome week in the Coastal Bend! We had a great group of students who never gave up. They worked so hard this whole week and the community took note of their service. What great examples of Christ and His Kingdom. Love comes in many forms and this week students showed love through their sweat and positive attitudes.

We pray that these students (after some much needed rest) will start thinking about how they can “bounce back home” in their own communities. Their work this week will make a lasting impact in this community but how can their impact be replicated?...

River Ministry Partnership

Bouncers assembled sixty-six hygiene kits for Texas Baptist’s River Ministry. These kits contain essentials like toothpaste, a toothbrush, shampoo, and soap. The River Ministry gives these kits to families that participate in free health conferences and health clinics. They are also used in prison ministries along the border.

These gifts recognize the humanity in those who may be in need of resources and encouragement. It is hard to be away from home without resources, friends, community, and perhaps even a language barrier. Praise God that all are welcome to draw near to Him. Bouncer’s simple act of love...

Beautiful Examples

Tonight marks the end of a rewarding second day in Coastal Bend. Bouncers never wavered for a moment today. Some of our teams have been able to move onto new sites and/ start new projects at their locations. The tenacity of these students to do their jobs well has is unbelievable.

We have seen students face many challenges pushing through hot days, serving at locations with no water or electricity, wading through mounds of trash and dirt to clean up a home, getting on top of roofs, etc. Through it all, they are determined to get the job done. We seldom (if ever) hear a complaint from...

Jesus Has Thrown the Whole World Off Balance

After a long, eventful day I often think about Flannery O’Connor’s famous villain, The Misfit, from “A Good Man is Hard to Find.” At the end of the story he has a famous line, “Jesus thrown everything off balance.” The Misfit is a nihilist who couldn’t believe in a God he couldn’t see but acknowledged that whether He was who he said he was or not…the world has been thrown into something new and bewildering because of Him.

Bouncers encapsulate the heart of the dismantling of the world as we know it. Hurricane Harvey has brought so much destruction. Life never slows down after disaster strikes. It...

Taste and See

Though it has been two years since Harvey touched landfall there is still so much devastation. Students from FBC Kingwood and Parkside Baptist in Denison continued work at Bobby Beach Park today. The flooding to the area has rotted the wood in the sheds and damaged the baseball field. Lack of resources made it difficult for the community to repair the park. As a result, it was left to be overgrown with weeds and filled with trash. I was able to talk to Ethan, an incoming 8th-grade student at FBC Kingwood, while we worked on removing vines from the fences. Ethan was excited about the opportunities he has to...

It's GO TIME

Bouncers wrapped up a long and hard first day of work! Students came back from their worksites with transformational testimonies. Allen Heights Baptist Church (pictured above) was able to move an elderly couple back into their home for the first time since Harvey. The resident admitted that this would be his first time sleeping in his bed in two years. What a wonderful gift! Each and every student stepped outside of their comfort zone to do something great for the Kingdom.

The challenge this week is to step out into boldness. Tonight students gave sacrificially for the...

Do it Again

We have concluded a wonderful week of disaster recovery in Houston! Nearly 100 students from six churches finished over 13 projects. Students were challenged to Bounce back home. If we really believe that the work we did this week was and is God inspired then it is impossible to just walk away. Bouncers displayed an amazing love for God and God’s people this week. The Bounce team has enjoyed working with and learning from the student’s love and work ethic.

Worship speaker, Nick Cooper, gave students necessary tools to continue growing closer to God through the study of Scripture. The table of contents is...

Breakfast at Bounce is much like breakfast at home. It is a great time to catch up with the family and plan out the day together. This morning I got to hang out with some ladies from First Baptist Kilgore. Eleventh-grade student, Maci Hatcher, was excited to get back to her work site at the trailer park this morning – after her morning cup of tea of course. She was able to spend time with a little girl in the community named Genesis. Maci explained she is grateful for her previous mission experience last summer in Honduras. There she was able to practice her Spanish language skills with children in Honduran communities. The trailer...

Bouncers Assemble

Our Bouncers have arrived and we couldn’t be happier. They survived long bus rides and scorching temperatures but they have made it nonetheless. Bouncers are revved up and excited to get to work tomorrow morning. Bouncers will be split into nine different teams covering the entire Houston area from North Houston to Baytown.

The entire Gulf Coast region of Texas experienced severe flooding and damage from wind. This week’s teams will spend their time removing and repairing fences, repainting the outside of buildings, and clearing debris. They have a long, hard week ahead of them but they are filled with purpose and...

Bouncing Into Summer 2019

Tomorrow, six Texas-based churches will arrive at South Main Baptist Church in Pasadena, TX to begin the first week of the summer 2019 disaster recovery projects with Bounce. They will focus their work on areas devasted by hurricane Harvey. We are excited to welcome a cumulative of 96 students and volunteers from Brazos Meadows Baptist Church, First Baptist Church Fort Worth, First Baptist Church Kilgore, First Baptist Church Seguin, South Main Baptist Church Pasadena, and Westside Baptist Church.

This week is made possible by hardworking staff who have been preparing weeks in advance to get everything ready when the buses roll...
